Keeping Coyotes Away
Coyote mating season runs from mid-January through early March. The animals are typically more aggressive and territorial during this time. Since many of our apartment communities are located near wooded areas, you may see coyotes nearby. Here are a few tips to keep them away from your apartment:
Do not feed any coyotes that you see near your apartment. If they find food, they will likely return.
Make sure that your trash is secured in a bin with a cover. Coyotes will sometimes pick through trash and if they find something to eat, they may return.
Keep an eye on your pets when they’re outside and make sure they are on a leash.
Fill an empty bottle with rocks or coins so that you have a noisemaker ready when you see a coyote.
If you see a coyote be as loud and big as possible in order to scare the animal away.
